Need to stop/delay sheriff sale - NOT foreclosure related?

a simple matter of making arrangement to pay....technically you cannot stop the sale....you buy your stuff back at less than the cost of the debt....the reason they won't agree to stop the sale is because all you do is set up a payment schedule to not pay............
